Mandala in Iers hardsteen

This sculpture is a mandala representation of the fractal structure of the I Ching, an ancient Chinese 6-dimensional map of the universe.

The I Ching comprises 64 hexagrams made from 6 lines, each either broken (yin, black) or whole (yang, white. Each layer of the mandala corresponds to one line. The center is the bottom line, second ring is the second line, etc. If you trace any path from the center to the periphery, you pass through 6 layers of solid and/or broken lines, which marks out one of the 64 hexagrams.

The relationship between the successive rings follows the golden ratio.
